About Us

The debut edition of The Cleveland Current was published on Sunday, March 8, 2009.  It was the first Sunday newspaper in the history of Cleveland, Mississippi. 
 
From 2009 until 2017, almost 4,000 copies of the newspaper were distributed to the front yards of subscribers and in newspaper vending machines all over Bolivar County, Mississippi.  
 
The Cleveland Current, consisted of community news and a sports section that both won numerous awards including a significant award from the National Newspaper Association that was presented to the newspaper staff in Omaha, Nebraska.  In addition to these sections, the paper also published a Lifestyle, Business, and Farm sections as well as Guest commentaries, obituaries, and Letters to the Editor.
 
The owner and publisher of The Cleveland Current was 
J. Scott Coopwood, a seventh generation Mississippian. 
 
After the 104 year old daily, The Bolivar Commercial closed its doors in April, 2020, Coopwood returned to the newspaper business and in May 2020 he began publishing The Bolivar Bullet. This newspaper is published every Wednesday and is the newspaper of record for Cleveland and Bolivar County, Mississippi.
